Intent

Two-hundred years ago Harris would have been thought to be possessed, perhaps by a demon or some such supernatural being, and subsequently exorcised.  Now we know that Harris has what is commonly known as multiple personality disorder.  Harris has only one extra personality, but what he lacks in quantity is made up for in extravagant detail.  Here is an excerpt from the latest novel by Harris’ second personality, Jean Pierre:

“I awaken every third day to find myself in the body of this absurd, smelly man.  I don’t know what I could have done to deserve such an impossibly cruel punishment.”
